Privacy policy

Short version: your voice and what you dictate stay on your Mac. We collect what we need to sell and license the app, and nothing else. For a plain-language overview see Privacy & offline.

The Mac app

• Audio and transcripts are processed and stored on your Mac. We never receive them.
• Licensing: when you start a trial, activate, or the app checks your license, we receive an anonymous device ID (a one-way hash of your Mac's hardware identifier), your license key or signed license token, your Mac's name (shown in your device list), and the app and macOS versions. Your IP address is visible to our server for rate limiting and security; we don't store it with your license.
• Updates: the update check requests a feed from our download server, which receives your app and macOS version.
• Writing providers you configure receive text directly from your Mac under their own privacy policies. We don't see it.
• Diagnostics are created only when you export them, and sent only if you email them to us.

Purchases

Payments are processed by Stripe. We receive your email address, country, the plan you bought and payment status — not your card number. We use your email to deliver your license, receipts, sign-in links for license management, and messages about your purchase (such as refunds). We don't send marketing email.

iPhone waitlist

If you join the iPhone waitlist, we store your email address and use it once, to tell you when the app is available. Ask us to remove it any time.

The website

We count page views and a few events (like download clicks) without cookies. We store only the page path, the referring site's domain and a daily count — no IP addresses, user agents or identifiers. We honor Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control by not counting at all. A session cookie is set only if you sign in to manage a license.

Service providers

• Stripe — payments.
• Resend — sending transactional email.
• Hetzner — hosting our servers in Germany. Server access logs don’t record full IP addresses.
• Hugging Face — hosts the speech model files your Mac downloads.

Retention

We keep purchase and license records for as long as your license exists and as required for tax and accounting. Sign-in links expire after 30 minutes and sessions after 14 days. Daily page counts are kept in aggregate.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, correction, or deletion of your license records (which deactivates the license) by emailing support@sayburst.com. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA, including the right to complain to a supervisory authority.

Changes

We'll update the effective date when this policy changes, and email customers about material changes.
