Teach dictation your words: vocabulary and replacements

Stop correcting the same names and terms. How custom vocabulary and exact replacements work in Sayburst, with real before-and-after examples.

· 1 min read

Every dictation tool has a short list of words it always gets wrong for you: a colleague's name, your product, a library you use every day. Fixing them by hand is what makes dictation feel slow.

Vocabulary

Add the word once in Settings › Dictionary. Sayburst uses it three ways:

  • Spelling and capitals. "github" becomes "GitHub", "macos" becomes "macOS".
  • Near misses. If the model hears something close that isn't a real word, Sayburst corrects it. Parakeet once heard our own name as "Saberst" — with "Sayburst" in the vocabulary, it comes out right every time. Real words are never changed.
  • Whisper hints. Whisper models are nudged toward your words while transcribing.

Replacements

A replacement turns an exact phrase into anything you want:

You saySayburst types
my emailalex@example.com
sayburst dot comsayburst.com
etaETA

So "send the invoice to my email and link sayburst dot com in the footer" becomes:

Send the invoice to alex@example.com and link sayburst.com in the footer.

Replacements match whole phrases only — "beta" won't be touched by a rule for "eta" — and you can make one case-sensitive.

Import and export

Keep a list in a spreadsheet? Import a two-column CSV (find, replace). Rows with an empty second column become vocabulary. Export as JSON to move everything to another Mac.

Hold fn, talk, and clean text lands where your cursor is. Free for 7 days.
